The ministry of Grace@Work is built on one basic premise:
That followers of Jesus Christ are called to give their whole lives back unto God as "living sacrifices". Indeed this is the only acceptable response to the overwhelming grace we have received from Him.Romans 12:1-3 reads: And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is. As God's messenger, I give each of you this warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you." NLTFrom the above passage we can conclude that if we are to give our lives as living sacrifices to the Lord, we need to know three things: the Word, the world, and ourselves. We need to know the world. If we are not to copy the behaviour and customs of this world, we must know something of the world as it is today. Indeed the word for 'world' can also be translated 'age.' Like the men of Issachar, we need to know the times we live in (1 Chronicles 12:32). Only in knowing our world can we be aware of the dangers and opportunities that exist in the times we live in. We need to know ourselves. We are told to have an 'honest estimate' of ourselves in order that we do not compare ourselves with others in the body of Christ. God has made us all unique, each with his or her unique role to play in God's plans. As unique individuals, we all have our own personalities, gifts, strengths, weaknesses, etc. To follow Christ effectively then, we need to have some understanding of ourselves. We need to know the Word. When we became followers of Jesus, God began to transform us into the image of Jesus. A key part of this transformation is the transformation of the way we think. Our thinking becomes moulded by God's Word, which is "inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to makes us realise what is wrong in our lives" (2 Timothy 3:16a NLT). Indeed knowing God's Word is foundational because it is the objective means by which we evaluate the world, and ourselves. These then are three areas of knowledge that we need to know if we are to follow Christ effectively - the Word, the world, and ourselves. Together, these three areas of knowledge constitute a basic curriculum for our lives in Christ. The Mission of Grace@Work Grace@Work exists to help Christians grow in their understanding of the Word, the world, and themselves, so that they can better follow Christ. This mission will be carried out through the following strategies:
Core Values of Grace@Work Community As followers of the triune God, we believe that learning, growing, and serving, is to take place in the context of community and relationships. Therefore Grace@Work considers small groups and mentoring as foundational to its ministry. Communication We believe that 'important products need effective packaging'. Therefore Grace@Work will endeavour to work hard at using whatever communication methods and technology that will best help get our message across. Creativity God's Word never changes. But forms and structures do. They are merely means to an end. Therefore we will periodically review how we do ministry to ensure that our methods and structures are still effective in getting the job done. |
